Preparing for A Date

Dress Up
Take a bath and dress up. What turns a girl faster than you can say hello are: bad breath, body odor, unshaven look and dirty clothes. These 'little things' tells a woman a lot about you.

Arrive on Time
Give yourself ample time in case of a traffic jam. Don't turn up late otherwise she thinks you are unreliable. The more she waits, the less romantic she feels.

Plan Your Programme
If you want to impress her, bring her to places she will never forget. Plan ahead. The most common place for Singaporeans is the theatre. I don't think watching a movie is the best way to impress your date. It takes up the bulk of the evening and you can't chat with her during the show. Your aim is to interact and get to her better.

Ainsley, a 30-year girl, recalls:

"I ever dated a guy, he is already plain in terms of looks and character, and to make things worst, he doesn't plan for the date at all, We are suppose to meet for movie, end up he is late because of an meeting that dragged longer than he expected. I have to buy the ticket and watch the movie alone for the first 10min. After the movie, we just stood there at the junction, trying to decide where to go for dinner. Really not impressed with this date. I mean if he knows there is an important meeting he shouldn't put the date on that day, we all know that duration of a meeting is unpredictable. And he doesn't care to bring me somewhere special to dine."

Here are some places you can bring her to:

• Museums - for the tongue-tied, you can comment on the artworks
• Observation Deck - Visit Sentosa Tower or skyscrapers in town for a breath-taking view of the city. Some restaurants at the top of the skyscrapers offer a scenic view of the city.
• Boat Ride - Enjoy a fun paddleboat ride at Sentosa Lagoon.
• Romantic Restaurant - Take her to a cozy and romantic restaurant. It's even better if they have a piano bar or live entertainment or soft music, dim lighting and scenic views while you're eating.

Pamper Her
Be a gentleman. Every girl wants to be pampered like a princess. For example, hold the door open for her, let her walk through the door first, pull out her chair, and do not try to complete her conversation. Maintain eye contact. Treat her like a special lady.

Praise Her
Why do you think women take the effort to make up and dress up? Women love to be complimented, feel sexy and beautiful. One of the sexiest things a man can do on a date is to compliment her. Pay special attention to her unique beauty e.g. compliment on how her eyes twinkle when she smiles.

Listen More, Talk Less
Talk less about yourself. Ask her questions and listen more. She will enjoy the date when you show interest in what she has to say. Think about what you would like to know about her. You don't want to be in a situation when the conversation dries up and both of you look at each in uncomfortable silence and boredom.

Pay the Bill
Offer to pay the bill. If she insists on paying, either let her pay half or suggest that she can pay the bill at the next date.

The Last Words
How do you say goodbye? If you are not interested in her, simply say, "It was nice meeting you". Or say "Good night", smile and walk away. If you are interested in her, tell her you will call her again.
